IMPORTANT!

 VIRULENT NEWCASTLE UPDATE:

“The State Veterinarian has placed Riverside County, San Bernardino County and Los Angeles County under quarantine.  No birds can be transported out of those areas.

Areas affected as of February 27, 2019 : Compton and Whittier (Los Angeles County) Eastvale, Menifee, Mira Loma/Jurupa Valley, Norco, Nuevo, Perris, and Riverside City (Riverside County) Fontana, Hesperia, Highland, Muscoy, and Ontario (San Bernardino County)

Therefore, the West Valley Bird Society to protect our members and their birds will ask that no birds be brought into our meetings until the quarantine is removed. The ban includes exhibition and non poultry birds.  Please inform your friends and others.  If anyone arrives at the club with birds, they will not be allowed to attend.

This is for the protection of all as Newcastle can be spread by direct contact between birds, by coughing and sneezing, and through droppings.  People can spread VND by moving infected birds, moving equipment and feed, and by wearing clothing and shoes that have been in infected areas.

CDFA suggests keeping your birds away from other birds.  If you visit family or friends with birds, shower, wash your clothes, and change your shoes before handling your birds.  Remember all birds can be infected with VND.  They may not get sick but can still spread the disease to chickens and other pet birds.

Please go to the cdfa website for more information.
